I Paved Way for Wizkid and Davido – Eedris Abdulkareem
2017 might be gone for good, having been replaced by the New Year 2018. But some things just might never change, one of those things being the ever controversial nature of former member of the now defunct Nigerian hip hop group, The Remedies.
The ‘Jaga Jaga’ rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, is back in the news once again as he recently added to his long string of bombshells at the Ikorodu chapter of the One Lagos Fiesta where he essentially declared that there would be no Davido or Wizkid without him. Quite a stretch, one might say.
The One Lagos Fiesta is a celebration of the culture, art and people residing in the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria – Lagos. The annual event which holds at 5 locations across Africa’s mega city viz. Ikeja (Agege Stadium), Badagry (Badagry Grammar School), Ikorodu (Ikorodu Town Hall), Lagos Island (Bar Beach) and Epe (Epe-Marina Beachfront) always promises a rather all-encompassing line-up of artistes to entertain the large audiences.
Eedris, whose last album, ‘Unfinished Business’ was released in 2010, might have touched a nerve or two at the Ikorodu leg of the event. The ‘Mr. Lecturer’ rapper did not mince words as he emphatically stated that himself and industry veterans such as Pasuma, Daddy Showkey and Malaika paved the way for the likes of current serial hit-makers, Wizkid and Davido, to make the waves they’re currently making in the industry.
Amidst taunting jeers from the audience who seemed to disagree with the old-timer, Eedris went ahead to remind the crowd of his infamous fight with American rapper, 50cent, way back in 2004 – 13 long years ago. The incident which occurred on an ADC flight to Port Harcourt, fans would recall, more or less marked the beginning of a rather unfortunate nose-dive in Eedris’ then enviable rap career.
