Tinny Entertainment’s Ycee & Bella Talk Music Making on BBC Africa

Tinny Entertainment signed acts, Ycee and Bella, dropped by the BBC Africa office in the UK for a brief interview on the station’s show “Focus on Africa”. Fans of the pair would recall that they have collaborated on ‘Radio’, Bella’s debut single, and the very recently released Tinny Mafia hit single, ‘Kokoka’, which also features Dapo Tuburna and Damilare

The ‘Juice’ rapper, whose recent highly-acclaimed first headline show “The Juice Concert” at the O2 Academy, Islington in London was a major success, with surprise appearances by Wizkid, Falz and comedian Basketmouth, shared his opinions and thoughts, alongside and his labelmate, Bella – who also performed at Ycee’s concert – about the intricacies of making music, especially as a Nigerian artiste.

Ycee, whose critically-acclaimed 8-track ‘First Wave EP’ was released in April 2017, explained that it was common for Nigerian artistes to focus on making what he referred to as Dance music simply because that seems to be what the Nigerian audience wanted most.

He however encouraged artistes who consider themselves creative to focus as well on writing songs that address social issues and bear positive messages.

Bella, whose real name is Mabel Alubo, is known for her bold, witty lyrics which characterized her independently released first two EPs ‘Bella’ and ‘Bella 2.0 Lucid Dreaming’.

Speaking on the interview, the artiste explained that even though her EPs – which she released on the music streaming platform, Soundcloud – were not recorded or mixed properly, her recording, song writing and structuring skills have improved and become much more professional ever since she got signed to Tinny Entertainment.
