M.I Abaga Provokes Abuja Residents At TEDx Maitama

He is one of Nigeria’s better known rappers, and for good reason: he takes his craft seriously, which is to be expected of one with an eye on the future. But you are thoroughly mistaken if you think M.I. Abaga’s life is circumscribed by music or that he is an ignoramus on subjects outside music.

This much was obvious in his talk at TEDx Maitama, where he bared his mind on several issues bedevilling the society and how he might fix them, leaving the audience wondering how he came to be so informed.

He emphasized the importance of unifying the society and creating value, and encouraged the audience to focus on what truly matters: getting the job done despite challenges.

Emphasizing the challenges and effects of building up Nigerian, he alluded to the Tower of Babel, where language barriers truncated the completion of that ambitious project.

Determined Nigeria should not repeat the same, he drew examples from his role as a musician and record producer (He is CEO of the recording label Chocolate City).

TEDx Maitama, which held at Dunes Centre in Abuja, had the theme “What Next?”

M.I. Abaga, whose birth name is Jude Abaga, is a noted feminist, and he hinted during his speech at TEDx Maitama having a team of predominantly young women.

Abaga, a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in 2012, was the only musician among the list of selected speakers at the event.
