Cindy Explains Why She Hid her Proposal from the Public

In March, Ugandan dancehall singer Cinderella Sanyu commonly known by her stage name Cindy, announced on her social media pages that she was officially engaged to Ugandan actor and UCU lecturer Joel Okuyo Atiku, flashing off her ring in a proposal video.

Although she made the announcement mid-month after her concert of the 7th March, the proposal actually happened on 2nd February.

In a recent interview on national TV, Cindy explained why she delayed the big news, stating that she did not want the proposal to affect her concert.

“I did not want people to think that the proposal was to promote the launch. I did not want my love life to be like a stunt before the media so we decided to keep it a secret till after the concert. It was not like I was scared of any other woman to come up but once you involve the media in the early stages of your relationship, you do not get the chance to even understand the person you are dating.

“I moved with him everywhere but they thought he was my assistant. I first wanted him to know my life and what I do. I wanted him to see what it was like when I go for shows. So he accepted all that and still maintained that he loved me, regardless,” she said.

Cindy noted that they secretly dated for four years, adding that it was becoming more difficult to keep their relationship away from the media, hence the need to make it public.

“It was so hard because people were always suspicious but they had no evidence. Because he was good with cameras, people thought he was always with me to film my shows,” she said.
