Watch: Cassper Nyovest on Perenial Beef with AKA – “I’m Not About Faking Unity for the Sake of Hype”

Multi-award winning South African rapper and Hip-Hop artiste, Cassper Nyovest, recently flew into Lagos for the first time in nearly two years to attend the Soundcity MVP Awards, at which he bested Nigeria’s M.I Abaga, Olamide and Falz, Ghana’s Sarkodie, and his fellow countrymen, AKA, Nasty C, and Kwesta to take home the coveted Best Hip-Hop award.

While still in Lagos, not only did the ‘Tito Mboweni’ rapper meet up with DMW boss, Davido, to cook up what promises to be an earth-shattering collaboration, he also stopped by the Beat FM studio for an interview with two of the radio station’s finest OAPs, Olisa Adibua and Maria Okanrede, on “The Morning Rush” show.

The 27 year old rapper whose real name is Refiloe Maele Phoolo was obviously excited to be on the show, and spoke rather candidly on a variety of issues ranging from his record-breaking sold-out stadium concert, to why virtually everybody can relate to his music, to the Nigerian artistes who he would love to collaborate with.

Olisa and Maria did an expectedly great job, as they got the rapper to address really salient issues. Although he also spoke at length about why his highly publicized relationship with his ex-girlfriend, South African actress Boitumelo Thulo, went sour, the highlight of the interview had to be his revelation about why he turned down the offer from arguably his biggest rival, AKA, to perform at his “Fill Up FNB Stadium” concert.

In the interview, Cassper – who still maintains that he does not like AKA – reveals that he turned him down because he requested a whopping one million rand to perform at his concert. He further states that he wouldn’t fake unity just for the sake of hype, when there’s obviously no love lost between him and the ‘Caiphus Song’ rapper.
