Adey, Producer of Ycee’s ‘Juice’, Ready to Drag Tinny Entertainment to Court; Here’s Why
Barely a couple of weeks after the mega success of Ycee’s ‘The Juice Concert’ in London, the Tinny Entertainment signed rapper and his record label are in the news once more, this time for not-so-pleasant reasons.
Ycee’s award-winning smash-hit, ‘Juice’, featuring Maleek Berry was beyond doubt one of the biggest Nigerian songs of 2017.
Easily the most successful track on the ‘Omo Alhaji’’s ‘The First Wave’ EP, the massive joint not only received rave reviews, it also rocked continental airwaves and topped our favourite music charts.
However, the producer of the scorcher, Adey, who has also produced firecrackers such as Olamide’s ‘Wavy Level’, has – to our surprise – recently expressed his intentions to take legal action against Ycee’s record label, Tinny Entertainment, on account of ‘Juice’. Why? Well, according to Adey, considering the unprecedented commercial success of the joint, he has not benefitted financially from his efforts on the track.
In a recent podcast, the producer had this to say when asked if he had received his due payments from the success of ‘Juice’:
“No. In terms of benefiting from that song, financially, I would say no.”
Of course, Adey was questioned with regard to his surprising claim. The producer then disclosed that, although he received a relatively meagre payment from the song and signed the appropriate papers, he was yet to receive the royalties that were due to him.
“I haven’t gotten any. I made more money from ‘Wavy level’ than I have made from ‘Juice’. The problem with Nigeria is that if you show your soft side too much, people always take you for a ‘dickhead’. That’s the truth about it. That’s why everyone is so guarded and so angry around here. You make one small step towards trusting someone, and they turn around and dump it on you.
“For me, the type of person I am, I will keep it moving. Regardless of ‘Juice’ or not, my life will still go on.
“What I’m personally about is actually doing the right thing. I get upset when people who are close to you take measures to make sure they don’t do the right thing.”
When asked about the likelihood of the matter going to court, the talented producer didn’t mince words when he emphatically declared he would be taking due legal action.
“It’s happening…they should be aware that it is coming. Both parties believe that they are right, but what is actually right is the black and white on the paper. I don’t want to dwell on it too much, but the fact of it is that it is a disservice to me.”
