2Baba Scores Media Triumph Over “Amaka” Ownership
“Gaga Shuffle” crooner and one-time Plantashun Boiz key singer 2Baba has got some reprieve over the ownership of the song “Amaka.”
2Baba released “Amaka” late June this year. He had co-opted DMW star Peruzzi for the single. The song enjoyed enormous airplay and became a hit in no time.
Controversy erupted when upcoming singer Analike Okezie (Yoko B) accused 2Baba of having stolen the concept from him.
Sunday PUNCH carried the story on July 8, 2018 in which Yoko B had said: “The new song, Amaka, by 2Baba featuring Peruzzi is my concept.”
However, Sunday PUNCH had an volte-face when it published a retraction claiming that its precious article was published without due verification.
The PUNCH editor wrote: “On July 8, 2018 edition of the Sunday PUNCH, we published without due verification a story in which Analike Okezie (Yoko B) accused 2Baba of stealing his song, Amaka.
“We hereby retract the said story and tender an apology to Mr. Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba, who we hold in high regard.”
This is not exactly a court verdict, but having won it on the media front, 2Baba, who singer Simi recently co-opted for “Original Baby (Remix),” has got some iron bars to hold on.
This triumph will add to his credibility and might slightly weaken the claims of those who have accused him previously of stealing their songs, including one-time band mate Blackface.
