Burna Boy Lights Up Electronic Billboards In New York

“Gbona” hitmaker Burna Boy is on a roll this year, singing, collaborating, winning… Honours have poured on his head so much this year that one might be forgiven for hinting at divine preferment.

The most recent honour to be bestowed on Burna Boy is Artiste on the Rise, by YouTube. As a result of the honour, electronic billboards at Times Square, New York, United States, now bear the rapper’s name, with his music video “Ye” playing in the background.

An excited Burna Boy took to Instagram to post images of the billboards bearing his name and playing his music video.

Some top names in Nigeria music industry liked the post, including Wizkid.

“Nwa Baby” crooner Davido dropped the comment “Crazy bro!!” followed by the love and fire emojis.

Burna Boy has been in top form this year, so the honour should come as no surprise to fans of the artiste and the watchers too.

He was recently honoured by the O2 Academy Brixton for his sold out show. Theresfter he had been co-opted by Show Dem Camp in the single “Legend.” Before then he had been co-opted by Larry Gaaga on “Baba Nla,” alongside 2Baba and D’banj. American electronic music group Major Lazer had also co-opted him on “All My Life.”

The recent award from YouTube should keep Burna Boy on his musical toes. That is the way to go.
