Mr Eazi, Wizkid, Davido Make Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2019 Nominees List – Full List of Nominees

The list of nominees for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) have been announced. The list has the likes of Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy from Nigeria, and Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and  Sarkodie from Ghana.

The VGMA may have lived up to its name in at least one respect: ninety percent of the artistes featured are Ghanaians. The Nigerians who made the list, from Burna Boy to Davido, have been truly outstanding.

Burna Boy had a superlative 2018, winning several awards, including YouTube’s artiste on the rise. His latest track “Dangote” is currently ruling the airwaves in Nigeria and has even spawned a track of similar title from another artiste.

Davido, who is dropping an album this summer, is setting a record in the music industry by gifting cars to all members of him team.

On his part, Wizkid had stopped his releases last year with a promise to return to the music scene in March, just after the general election in Nigeria. He has since returned, with an unofficial track titled “Jah Bless Me

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is now in its 20th year. It has managed to stay strong through criticisms over the past two decades.

From using a wooden plaque as awards to the many criticisms we have had in the past years, thanks to individuals in the creative arts industry who have solidly been behind this award. Twenty years is no joke and the awards have attracted a rich cultural mix of Ghanaians, Nigerians, South Africans and other people from other parts of the world who share similar cultural values,” Theresa Ayoade, part of the organizers of the award, said.
