Nigeria’s music scene is in a state of flux. But then this isn’t new, nor is it specific to Nigeria. The global music scene is actually changing, and artistes adapting accordingly. This mush is not lost on veteran Nigerian rapper Ruggedman.

He has apparently been observing the industry and its evolving trends and made his observations know in a recent interview with Punch Newspapers. According to Ruggedman, who recently released the music video of his single “Sucasa Micasa,” the rap scene may not be as hot as it used to be and some rappers are beginning to turn singers.

He wouldn’t turn this into a blame session, though. He rather gave an explanation for the trend that sees rappers abandoning the rap field for singing.

Said he: ” Right now, rap music is struggling because everybody is singing. I don’t blame rappers who are now singing because it is what the people want. Radio stations would rather play more of singing tracks than rap songs.

To each his own, apparently. As it is said, a man will go anywhere his bread is buttered. And if it is in the singing field, well, why not?

Ruggedman, who now combines social activism with music, recently released “All My Guys are Ballers.
