NaijaTurnUp’s Top 10 Naija Songs of March 2018
Just like January and February, March thrilled us with an impressive number of scintillating offerings from some of our favourite artistes on the Nigerian music radar.
As expected, coming up with this top 10 was no mean feat, as there was such an abundance of spectacular songs to pick from.
We however did what we had to and, based on lyrical content, production quality, reviews and hits on out platform, we’re pleased to present to you NaijaTurnUp’s top 10 songs of March 2018:
10. Grey C – Rude Boy ft. Patoranking
The minute we heard that Amari Musiq leading lady Grey was joining efforts with boss Patoranking, the man with the Midas touch, to cook up her debut release of 2018, we instantly knew we were in for something special.
On “Rude Boy”, which was brilliantly produced by Tee Mode Beatz and Mad Skill, Grey brings her sultry goodness to bear, ably complimented by Patoranking’s unmistakable Dancehall flavour, and the music video by Aje Filmworks is the perfect icing on the cake.
9. Tekno – Yur Luv
Undoubtedly one of the most consistent performers on the Nigerian music scene, Tekno continues in his serial hit-making ways with the release of “Yur Luv”.
The most recent in a long line of scorchers on which the self-acclaimed Slim Daddy is both recording artiste and record producer, “Yur Luv” packs a mean punch.
8. CDQ X Kiss Daniel – Gbayi
Easily one of the biggest scorchers released in March, “Gbayi” made all the right impressions on us the minute it dropped.
As one would imagine a collaboration between CDQ and Kiss Daniel would sound, “Gbayi” sees both artistes bring their A game to the table on a joint that’s as infectious as they come.
7. DJ Cuppy – Vybe ft. Sarkodie
DJ Cuppy has made it clear that she’s determined to establish herself as a recording artiste of repute aside being a renowned international DJ, and she’s doing such of a fantastic job of it, especially on her Sarkodie assisted latest banger “Vybe”.
The superstar DJ outdoes herself on the insanely groovy joint, showing us just how much of an artiste she is, but it’s Sarkodie’s rap genius that gives “Vybe” that extra spark that has landed it on this our top 10.
6. Phyno – One Chance ft. Kranium
Consistently pushing his music across international frontiers, multi award winning serial hit-maker, Phyno, linked up with Jamaican Reggae-Dancehall superstar Kranium to cook up a collaboration of epic proportions.
One listen was more than enough to keep us hooked, as the self acclaimed Eze Nnunu brings his undeniable lyrical genius to bear on “One Chance” while Kranium does what he’s long proven to know how to do best.
5. Tiwa Savage – Get It Now (Remix) ft. Omarion
Virtually every ardent fan of Tiwa Savage’s music went wild with excitement the moment she revealed she was collaborating with renowned American recording artiste, Omarion, so it wasn’t particularly surprising the amount of buzz the remix of “Get It Now” generated as soon as it dropped.
The Mavin first lady brought the fullness of her celestial vocals to the table just as she did on the original track, while Omarion shows us just why a remix of “Get It Now” had to be made, and why he had to be on it.
4. Ice Prince – If I Tell You ft. DJ Spinall
Few people can claim to be bigger Hip-hop sensations across the Nigerian music radar than Ice Prince, and the uber-talented music maker asserts himself as still the best at what he does on his DJ Spinall assisted “If I Tell You”.
DJ Spinall particularly has a knack for consistently cooking up fiery bangers virtually every single time he comes through on a joint, and this joint with the Super Cool Cats boss is definitely no different.
3. Yemi Alade – Bum Bum
The self acclaimed Mama Africa no doubt has that unmistakable black magic which has found expression yet again on her latest banger “Bum Bum” which she released to celebrate turning 29.
The undeniably infectious jam quickly took over social media with scores of people uploading videos of them trying out their illest dance moves to the jam, and the immediate release of the Sesan directed music video only made things crazier.
2. Brymo – Heya!
Brymo’s sixth studio album “Oṣó” was released amid unprecedented anticipation, and for all the right reasons. The lead single from the critically-acclaimed album “Heya!” particularly shows us just how much a master of his art Brymo is.
The song which was released alongside its accompanying music video has received major attention, definitely for Brymo’s artistic boldness (which anyone who has seen the video would understand) but even more so for the music maker’s superlative song writing skills and vocal ability.
1. Mayorkun – BOBO ft. Davido
Na money be fine Bobo. That’s exactly what the formidable 30 Billion gangster Mayorkun and his boss Davido would have us remember on “BOBO”, our favourite song from the month of March.
The DMW artiste Mayorkun enlists the musical genius of the label’s head honcho Davido to cook up a collaboration of epic proportions on which both superstars work their magic. With a befitting music video by the iconic Clarence Peters, what more could we ask for?
